Flying Ant Problems in Warrington, Knutsford and Lymm,.
Flying ants are the scourge of many folk in summer months leaving many people to dread the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they know the summer will bring
Only the unfortunate people who have suffered it will realise the true nature of flying ants in their own homes.
Having an infestation of basic wingless ants is bad enough but when they go through their annual mating phase the situation can become unbearable.
Ants often form colonies in the sub-floor areas and in the wall cavities of our houses and these colonies will continue for many years if left untreated becoming progressively more annoying every year.
Our homes are warm and dry and provide the ideal places for a growing ant colony; even solid hard floor is not a deterent to ants.
Our house heating systems keeps their metabolism even in the depths of winter and my earliest ant call-out was on my birthday, in January!
Ants prefer a sandy soil and there are many areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which have more ant callouts than other areas, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as hot ant spots.
Unfortunately it is during their mating time that they are most irksome. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this usually is pretty regularly around the third or fourth week in July.
Ants mate on the wing and around mid-summer the colony releases winged immature Queens and winged males which in nature would fly off and mate in the air. Many thousands of these flying ants are released by each and nests tend to time their production in order to mate with ants from other nests.
Normally this process starts after a period of days of hot, dry weather and will typically last for about seven to ten although smaller releases will continue throughout most of the summertime.
Unfortunately when the nest is under the floor of the house the results can be dreadful, literally thousands of winged ants are produced into the lower rooms, collecting on windows as they head for the light.
This can be very upsetting for some people leading to severe emotional trauma to the extent that people learn to hate the summertime and have actually left their house to avoid the plague of ants which they know will come each summer.
The wet summers of recent years have meant that ant problems were down on the preceding but ants apparently have a way of catching up and 2010 looks set to be a particularly good year for them.
Many people who have this problem try for DIY solutions with products from hardware shops etc but mostly these efforts fail as they are not getting to the heart of the problem which is the colony itself, hidden away safely in the cavity wall or sub-floor area.
Luckily for a lot of people help.
At Harrier Pest Control and Prevention (subject to local site) we are able to cure this problem and issue an extendable 3 year guarantee.
The treatment which is done mainly from the outside of the home, is perfectly safe for animals and children and leaves no smell, involves drilling small holes into the cavity walls of the building, not unlike a damp-course injection and blowing an insecticidal powder into the cavity wall under pressure.
This forms an uncrossable barrier across which the ants cannot go and along with a precautionary spray of the inside (if deemed necessary) will slowly bring the problem under control.
The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter stay open so it is an easy matter of topping up the cavities every three years to extend the period of the guarantee in 3 year terms.
This treatment is best done out in the early spring however it can be done all year round.
As a strictly limited time offer in our quiet period we are offering 25 percent off the usual price until May 30 2010. Whilst we usually cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are able to venture further afield but this will be reflected in the cost.
