Green Living: For the Health Of The Planet

You can make a positive impact on the environment by following green living ideas. Every strategy that you implement will help; if everyone does what you now do, there will be a huge improvement. It isn’t difficult to put these suggestions for green living into practice for yourself. Green living refers to a type of lifestyle that has the welfare of the Earth and local environment in mind.

Increased carbon levels in the atmosphere is believed to contribute to global warming, so a green living way of life needs to address this as well as reducing waste, the use of natural resources and toxins in the air and water. Many of these strategies also save you money and improve your health.

You can make a few changes in your life to help reduce the volumes of carbon in the atmosphere that is choking the planet. When your destination is close, leave the car at home. An easy strategy is to use public transport more or join a car pool for work or school drop-offs. Improve your health by walking more or cycling. Great ways to help both the planet and yourself.

CFLs are compact fluorescent light bulbs which use less power to produce more light, so change over the bulbs on your home to save money and the environment. The CFLs can reduce energy consumption 70% and they last longer than traditional bulbs. Changing your incandescent light bulbs for fluorescent will save you on power costs in your home, bearing in mind that changing only 5 bulbs saves you about $50 a year? Switch household appliances off at the wall when not in use.

Grow your own vegetables and help the environment, because plants take carbon from the air and hold it in the soil. This is another another measure that helps the planet and improves your own health at the same time. Methane, one of the worst greenhouse gases, is produced in high volumes by cattle. Poultry and fish have little impact on the planet and they are better for your health than red meat.

Put the 3 rules of environmental care, reuse, reduce and recycle, into practice in your home. Plastics are made from oil and release large amounts of toxins during their manufacture and through the life of the item made from plastic. Take your own reusable bags when you shop so you won’t need plastic bags; reuse those plastic bags that you already have. Reduce how much paper you use in your work and at home. Recycling plastics is simply a method of reusing them for a variety of purposes around the home and garden.

Reduce the amount of water you use in the home. Take shorter showers; even reducing your time under the water by a couple of minutes saves gallons of water. Turning taps on full-force wastes a lot of water, as you can’t use this high volume. Save water by using the washing machine rinse water to wash the car. Try alternative ways to heat and cool your home like solar power, blinds that regulate the temperature and plants around the house to control temperatures.

You can benefit the environment in many ways; these are just a few suggestions. Do some research and find more ways to improve the health of both the environment and your family. Kids have great ideas, so get them involved in your new green living lifestyle.
