Things needed for Soapmaking
You will need a few things if you want to start making your own soap. Soapmaking is a great project for all ages|Making your own soap can be a great project for all ages. It is easy and simple to start. Melt and Pour is the easiest and the best type of soap to make if you have absolutely no prior soapmaking knowledge. All it requires are a few molds, and some Melt and Pour base. Both of which are available at any Hobby or Soapmaking store. Amazon and Ebay even sell quite a variety also. I personally like to use online vendors because they have more variety and are generally cheaper.
In addition to these things you will need some cooking equipment, such as some glass bowls, or any type of microwavable safe bowls. These are what you will use to heat up your melt and pour base. You need to be careful when using the microwave though, you do not want to overcook the base. Doing so will lose some of the bases important qualities, especially in bases that contain Shea Butter and Goats Milk. When I make soap, I like to use the glass measuring cups because it is easier to pour into the molds later. Having some spoons to stir the base will be very important as well. Getting your tools out prior to heating your base will be much easier, since some bases can start to set pretty quickly.
When making soap you also have the ability to customize and put additives into the mix to change the color, add glitter or other small objects to the soap. You can even airbrush your soaps after they harden for a more decorative look. Color can be as simply as food coloring, but the best option would be soapmaking colorants which can be found at many soapmaking stores online. Many recipes for ideas can also be found online as well.
If you do want to start making soap from scratch, you can find tons of resources online as well. Making soap from scratch can be much more difficult than melt and pour. But it is not too hard once you get the hang of it. It can be fun to make, and the combinations in soap are endless. Using additives such as different essential oils, carrier oils, colorants, and molds creates a world of unimaginable possibilities. Being creative and having fun can yield tons of highly desired and wonderful bars of soap.
